Do not operate or allow anyone to operate this tool before reading these instructions. Never place hands or fingers near the jaw while there is air pressure to the tool. Always disconnect the tool from the airline before servicing.
This tool is custom made to use with the galvanized clips provided. Do not attempt to use any other clips or fasteners in this tool. This tool is either rented or loaned to you to use for a specific job. Enough clips have been sent to do the specified job plus 10% extra. A sheet that shows the location and spacing of clips is enclosed. Please study the recommended clip spacing before beginning. Extra clips may be purchased if required.
Air Pressure: Air pressure should be regulated at 90-120 psi. Less pressure may cause the tool to jam. More pressure may cause damage to the tool. The air should be clean and dry. The airline should have an air tool lubricator in the line or a few drops of light oil may be placed in the airline close to the tool daily.
Loading:
The strips of clips must be loaded
with the single leg of the clip facing forward. (See photo
below). To load, first pull back and latch the magazine slide, insert a full
strip of clips, and release the slide by pushing the button on the underside of
the magazine. Do not attempt to put clips in the tool until the previous strip
is almost out.
Use:
This tool has over 1,000 pounds of clamping pressure at the jaw and a
sensitive trigger. Care must be taken not to put fingers near the jaw when the
airline is connected. Don’t trust a valve to disconnect the air from the tool.
Sufficient pressure may remain in the line to operate the tool. Always
disconnect the airline and test that there is no air pressure by squeezing the
trigger before attempting to remove a jammed clip. Jammed clips will occur
anytime the
trigger is squeezed without the clip going around a wire.
The clips are designed to go around two wires only. Do not attempt to clip three or more wires with one clip. Should the jaw not retract and the tool remains hooked on the wire, twist the tool side to side, taking care not to squeeze the trigger a second time. If the tool does not release, disconnect the air and use a screwdriver to pry the drive blade away from the jaw. The two wires should be lined up parallel to the jaw (see photo below) to allow the clip to surround both wires. The wires should be close together and not be at the top or bottom of the jaw. Squeeze the trigger and release it as soon as the action has stopped. Experiment with shortening the amount of time you hold the trigger to the minimum required to close the clip around the wire. This will speed up production.
Removing jammed clips: Jammed clips are common if the trigger is squeeze without the clip going around any wires. The clip must be removed before any new clips may be installed. To remove the jammed clip, first pull back the magazine slide and allow the clips to slide back away from the jaw. Hold the clips so they don’t slide forward and squeeze the trigger a couple times to dislodge the jammed clip. Take care not to let another clip enter the front chamber. If the clip does not fall, out on its own, disconnect the airline, and then use a screwdriver to pry out the jammed clip. Never use a screwdriver to remove a clip with air pressure in the tool.
