 Instructions for Channel Tops with Wire or Cedar Side Lip

Both wire and cedar lips are available for one to four sides on any bench.  Be sure to study the packing slip before proceeding to be sure what type of lip you have and on how many sides of each bench.  When a Channel Top has a side lip the wire mesh top is not bend down at the sides.

Wire Side Lip – Wire side lips are available in 1 mesh high or 2 meshes high.  When a wire lip is at the end of a bench it is always done as part of the end Channel.  The end Channel is higher on the outside and becomes the lip.  For the sides of a bench the 2 mesh high (3”) lip is 6” wide mesh that clips to the bottom on the 3” high channel yielding a 3” high lip.  A 1 mesh lip used the same 6” wide wire mesh but one mesh is bent at 90 degrees and is clipped to the bottom of the channels.  Study you Packing Slip carefully to determine what you order includes before starting.  Clip the side lip to the bottom of the Channels and also to the mesh top directly above the clip on the bottom of the Channel.  Also clip the side lip to the top with one clip halfway between the Channels.

Cedar Side Lip. - The cedar side lip is attached to the Channel top using special bench Klips and wood screws.  The cedar is usually positioned flush with the bottom of the Channels but may be moved up or down if preferred.  If your bench has cedar at the ends, there are square-sided Channels to be used at those ends.  One Klip is attached at the bottom of each Channel and one Klip is attached at the top mesh halfway between channels.  The screw must be angled for ease of installation and to insure the screw point does not protrude through the cedar on the side of the bench.  These joints should be centered at the Channel so a Klip may be installed in both pieces of cedar.
