Benchmate Leg Assembly Instructions
Benchmates are normally shipped fully assembled except for the legs. (Large jobs may be shipped unassembled and have instructions for Channel spacing and assembly.) The legs are easily attached with the use of a 9/16” wrench and a small electric (or cordless) drill and Phillips bit.
Legs for bottom table – Before starting, look to see what leg lengths were shipped with your Benchmates. If you have two table sizes that are stackable, you may have two different leg lengths. You may choose to put the shorter legs on the bottom table and the longer ones on the top, but the most common set-up uses the longer legs on the bottom table and shorter on top. Using the 9/16” wrench, install a clamp and leg on each of the four corners of the table as shown in photo #1. Keep the clamp up tight against the inside end of the Channel. Laying the legs against the outside edge of the table as you tighten them will help keep the legs parallel with each other.
For 8’ and 10’ long tables move the leg up against the second Channel in from the end of the table. This will help even the distribution of weight.
Insert the diagonal brace into a wire on the Channel beside the leg as shown. The notch of the brace should face upward when the table is upside down so it is locked in by the adjacent wire when it is angled against the leg. The braces supplied for your tables may be one of three lengths listed below, and beside it is the number of meshes away from the leg that the notched end of the brace should be attached.
20” brace - 10 meshes from leg
14” brace - 6 meshes from leg
Using a square to ensure a right angle to the table, and a drill with Phillips bit with a supplied Tek screw, attach the diagonal brace to the leg at an angle of approximately 45 degrees.
For the top table there should be a notch cut into both sides of the bottom of two Channels. The legs are to be inserted into these notches and clamped as in the photo at right. Clamp the leg so it is tight against the inside or outside of the Channel. This will make the leg easier to line up with the mesh of the bottom table for stacking. Attach the diagonal brace in the same way as for the bottom table. If two different length braces are included with your order, use the longer ones for the wider table and shorter ones for the narrow ones. (For unassembled jobs, the opening in the bottom of the Channel needs to be cut on site.)
Stacking
- Insert the legs of the top table into the top of the base table. The two
tables must line up lengthwise, but the top table may be positioned front to
back as you choose. Move the loose galvanized plate inside the bottom table
to set under the legs of the top table.
